HOW TO MARKET SANTA LETTERS
* * *
1. DIRECT MAIL: Obtain or create a mailing list and mail flyers,
letters, and order form questionaires. To create a mailing
list, you can use your local phone book and copy names and
addresses into your database (Works for Windows database
included with your Santa Letter files.) You can also order
a mailing list from a company that specializes in lists.
Your list does not have to contain only parents of young
children. Everyone knows a child who would love to receive
a letter from Santa. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors,
family friends, and teachers all may be interested. You can
also mail order forms and cover letters to day care centers,
schools, churches, organizations, businesses, PTA's, clubs,
and Senior Citizen Groups and ask that they give copies
to all of the children or members. Don't be picky, mail to
anyone and everyone.
2. NEWSPAPER ADS: Place an ad in your local paper, neighboring
town papers, local "Shopper", and magazines. Leave a number
for people to call and request order form questionaires. You
can leave a special message on your answering machine to take
the names and addresses of people interested in ordering a
Santa Letter and mail order forms to the callers. Or you can
take all of the information included in the order form over
the phone and tell the caller where to send the check. This
would save you the postage. Add these names and addresses to
your database for future reference. You will want to send
them a letter and order form next year too.
3. FLYERS: Post flyers in stores, stick under windshield wipers
in parking lots, hand out to everyone you see (at the bank,
stores, craft fairs, malls, anywhere), attach to mailboxes
with tape, rubber bands, or stick under the flags (please
do not place flyers inside mailboxes, that is against the
law.) Several flyers are included in SANTA LETTERS 2.0.
HINT...a couple of good places to hand out flyers - toy
stores, malls, discount stores. Some stores also might
let you leave a stack of flyers on their counters. It
doesn't hurt to ask!
4. FUND RAISERS: Write a letter to schools and child care
centers offering fund raising opportunities. Let the
school keep $1-$2 for each letter they sell. You will
need a packet containing a cover letter explaining the
fund raising opportunity, sample letters and a few flyers
for the school to post on bulletin boards, a letter to
the parents explaining the fund raising opportunity for
their child's school, and the flyer/order form questionaire.
You may want to supply the school with 100 or so copies and
tell the school to feel free to make additional copies as
needed.
